Turning floral waste into growth
Our mission is to empower the floristry industry and its customers to make sustainable choices by turning green waste into compost.
COM:POST was created to help the floristry industry manage floral waste differently.
Through our closed-loop system, green waste collected from florists, studios, venues and events is transformed into compost for UK growers — helping return valuable organic material back to the soil.
Built alongside florists and industry partners, our system provides a practical and commercially sustainable way to reduce the environmental impact of floral waste.
One of the questions we are asked most often is:
“What happens to our green waste once it leaves us?”
Watch our short film below to see how the COM:POST system works.
The COM:POST system transforms floral green waste into reusable compost through a professionally managed closed-loop process.
Rather than entering mixed commercial waste streams, collected green waste is composted and returned to UK growers for use within horticulture and agriculture.
This helps florists reduce their environmental impact while providing confidence that floral waste is being managed transparently and responsibly.
We can guarantee that all green waste collected through our system is professionally composted within approximately 16–20 weeks.
A True Closed-Loop System
How the COM:POST System Works
Our closed-loop system has been designed specifically around the operational realities of floristry, making it simple for businesses to separate and compost floral green waste.
Stage One: The Florist. We provide all our florists with compostable paper sacks which they in turn fill with green waste - either from conditioning or when they return from a wedding or event.
Stage Two: The Collection. We regularly collect the full sacks from our florists, either via our wholesaler partners or using our fleet of vehicles.
Stage Three: The Composter. We work with composting partners across the UK. It takes up to 16 weeks to turn all green waste into rich, nutrient filled compost. The compostable sacks are a valuable addition as it helps with the process.
Stage Four: The Grower. We pride ourselves with creating a closed loop system as all compost produced by our system is returned to growers for food and flower production.
